Frequently Asked Questions
Organized by L | (614) 499-2443
Does Organized by L accept credit cards?

Yes, Organized by L accepts cash, checks, and credit cards.

My parents live in Columbus, but I don’t. They need to move. Can you help with emptying the house?

This is a common scenario since many people don’t live in the same city as their aging parents. The next time you are in town, let’s get together with you and your parents. We can discuss the process with them and the services we can offer. Give us a call ahead of time so that we can address your concerns before we discuss theirs. (Check out our section on Transitioning.)

My children’s rooms are a disaster. Do you work with children?

Yes, we have worked with many clients under 18, but we ask you to remain in the home. Sometimes, children tend to listen to other adults better than their parents.

We want to surprise my mother and organize her home while she is on vacation. Can you help?

We discourage organizing for someone that is not involved with the process. That individual can become defensive and wonder where their things have gone. As with AA, unless someone wants to get organized, there sadly isn’t much you can do.

We would be more than happy to meet with you and your mother to introduce ourselves and the organizing process. We may find more success with a gentler approach rather than a surprise organization. Contact us to make an appointment.

We are moving, and I don’t know where to begin. Do you have moving services?

Moving is one of the top five causes of stress in our lives. We can help you relieve that stress! We help make the process run smoothly, saving you time and money. Going through your things before you move helps you avoid paying to move things you don’t want or need at your new home. Our pre-move organizing service (see our Services Page) helps reduce expenses if you are hiring a moving company.

Don’t professional organizers make you get rid of things?

It is entirely your decision to part with your belongings. We help you decide if you want to part with things and offer resources for agencies or organizations that could use discarded items. While evaluating your things, we recommend that you properly store whatever you decide to keep and ensure it is easily accessible.

Are you basically a cleaning lady?

While many people lump organizing and cleaning together, they are two separate processes. Many clients have a spotless house, but their kitchen cabinet is a whole different story. We will clean things quickly when we expose a shelf or flooring as we are organizing, but we are providing organizing services, not cleaning services.

I need help with decorating. Do you do that?

Yes, we do! Ellen has a knack for decorating and rearranging your space to give you the change you need. A fresh set of eyes on your space can help you discover a new look. Let’s discuss problem areas you may have and find a solution!

What do I do with things I no longer need?

As a member of NAPO (National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals) and having been in the industry for a long time, we are aware of various agencies and organizations that can use your discards. We will gladly take your discards and provide you with a tax receipt, if applicable.

Do I have to be there when you come to my house?

Many times, we work side by side with clients to ask questions as they arise. Other times, we can work if the client is not present. We will establish guidelines ahead of time, such as agreeing that we will toss nothing unless it is actually trash. Then, we will leave notes behind for the client to review after we have left.

How long will this take?

We have found that a three-hour session is an excellent place to start. You feel a sense of accomplishment, but you aren’t tired of this organizing thing. It can be mentally taxing due to all your decisions, but we are there to help you make those difficult decisions.

Do I need to clean my home before you come to my home?

No, you do not! You may think of it as cleaning for the cleaning lady, but this is a little different situation. We need to see you, “warts and all,” to see what organizational issues we need to help you resolve.

Do I need to buy any bins before you come to my home?

No! We don't store everything in a 55-quart tub. Until we sort and determine what you want to keep, we won’t know what size of bin is needed to store those things. Many times, we can repurpose bins you already have. If new bins are needed, we will make a list of appropriately-sized bins for the items you are storing.
