Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, Organized by L accepts cash, checks, and credit cards.
This has become a common problem since many of us don’t live in the same city as our aging parents. Next time you are in town, let’s get together with you and your parents. We can discuss the process with them and the services we can offer them. Give us a call ahead of time so you will have your concerns addressed before we discuss their concerns. (Check out our page on Transitioning.)
We have worked with many clients under 18. We ask you to remain in the home. Sometimes, children tend to listen to others better than their own parents.
We discourage organizing for someone that is not involved with the process. They can become defensive and wonder where their things have gone. As with AA, unless someone wants to get organized, there sadly isn’t much you can do. We would be more than happy to meet with you and your mother so we can introduce ourselves and the process to her. We may find more success with a gentler approach. Contact us to make an appointment.
Moving is in the top 5 causes of stress in our lives. And yes, we can help you relieve that stress. Since it can be expensive to move, we help make the process run smoothly so it takes less time and money. We are your moving helper. By going through your things before you move, we help prevent paying to move things you don’t want or need at your new home. With Pre-move organizing (see our page on Moving Services), it helps reduce expenses if you are going to have a moving company pack you.
It is completely your decision to part with your belongings. We help you make the decisions if you want to part with things and offer resources of agencies or organizations that can use your discards. While evaluating your things, you just want to be sure that whatever you decide to keep is stored properly and easily accessible.
While many people lump organizing and cleaning together, they are two separate processes. Many clients have a very clean house, but when a kitchen cabinet is opened, it is a whole different story. We will clean things quickly when we expose a shelf or flooring as we are organizing, but we are providing organizing services, not cleaning services.
Sometimes a fresh set of eyes looking at your space can have a positive impact. Let’s discuss problem areas you may have and we can probably find a solution. Simply rearranging things can be the change you needed. Some people have a knack for decorating and Ellen has that knack.
Having been in the industry for a long time and being a member of NAPO (National Association of Professional Organizers) we are made aware of various agencies and organizations that can use your discards. We will gladly take your discards and provide you with a tax receipt if applicable.
Many times, we work side by side with clients so questions can be answered as they arise. Yet, other times, we can work without the client being there. Guidelines are established ahead of time, such as nothing will be tossed unless it is true trash. Then notes are left behind for the client to review after we have left.
It didn’t get disorganized overnight, so it’s not going to get organized with the wave of a wand. We have found that a 3-hour session is a good place to start. You see a sense of accomplishment, but you aren’t fried on this organizing thing. It can be mentally taxing due to all the decisions you are making. We are there to help you make those difficult decisions.
No, you do not! You may think of it as cleaning for the cleaning lady, but this is a little different situation. We basically need to see you “warts and all” so we can see what organizational issues we need to help you resolve.
No! Not everything should be stored in a 55 qt. tub. Until we sort and determine what you want to keep, we won’t know what size of bin is needed to store those things. Many times, we can repurpose bins you already have. If new bins are needed, we will make a list of a more appropriate size needed for the items you are storing.
